Selden Barns Wedding Shoot
Claire & Richard’s Selden Barns Wedding in West Sussex. After their civil ceremony, we took a quick walk up the country lane surrounded by beautiful West Sussex countryside. The sun was beaming down beautifully, although the weather forecast for that day was very mixed. Clare looked amazing in a unique wedding dress with multiple layers.
After our short walk around Selden Barns, we set up a confetti photo to lead everyone through to the drinks reception on the lawns of the wedding venue. I’ve been trying recently to ask a couple of guests to throw confetti early, before the couple approached them to capture the confetti in front of the couple as well as around. After a few tries in this wedding season, this has been my best so far, with lovely spots of colour blurred out in the foreground from the depth of field.
A small wave of showers came rolling in from the west, and after a couple of attempts we did manage to get a great rain photo in the wet weather. Every time we would set up the shot in the rain, it would then stop raining, so this one was very much third time lucky! Those of you who read the blog regularly will know how much I enjoy rain shots!
It brightened up again in the afternoon/early evening, and we got some brilliant photos in the west Sussex countryside surrounding the barn wedding venue, using this public footpath with surrounding fields and peaceful trees in the background. The back lighting and a little bit of white balance adjustment gave a lovely golden hour fuel to these photos that were taken around an hour before the Golden hour.
These shots worked perfectly with my 70 to 200 mm lens, as the long focal length really draws in the background and a wide open aperture of F2 .8 creates the maximum bokeh of the lens. We did actually get a tiny bit of gold in our light bursting through the clouds, and I managed to try out a little bit more lighting technique with our final shot before the wind blew the light over into the long grass. I must always remember my sandbag for the lighting! But nevertheless, the golden light in these photos is terrific.
