Grittenham Barn Wedding Photography – David & Giulietta’s Civil Ceremony in West Sussex

Wedding photography at Grittenham Barn in West Sussex. Just past Petworth on the A272, Grittenham Barn sits amongst beautiful fields underneath the South Downs, in the heart of the West Sussex countryside. This wedding photography shoot started at the venue to meet the groom for a couple of photographs with the groomsmen before the civil ceremony.

Grittenham Barn Wedding Ceremony

Navy and coral pink colours were prominent in both the bride and groom’s attire, the peonies and roses were accompanied with wild garden flowers and herbs. We shot a couple of photographs around Grittenham Barn of Giulietta and the bridesmaids before heading into the barn wedding ceremony. I love shooting the wedding ceremony, and particularly like the medium of black and white, but always supply a selection of both colour and black and white photography on the USB.

The weather was really changeable in the West Sussex countryside, with some moderate winds brining summer showers throughout the day. Luckily, when we came out of the ceremony, there was bright sunshine for us to get some confetti shots as they walked out of the barn, and take some beautiful group photographs under the shade of a tree, down a quaint country track next to Grittenham Barn.

Grittenham barn had some minimal decor, understated, relaying on the authentic, rustic beauty of the barn itself with the decorations of flowers and fairy lights inside the barn, highlighted by some paper honeycomb decorations (in similar pastel colours). We managed to shoot a few bridal portraits of David & Giulietta around the barn before it started to rain and we escaped into the barn for the wedding reception.

We shot this image just outside the bathrooms! The firelight wall was perfect to create some foreground interest and pattern in the bokeh of this wedding photograph.

After dinner, I shot a few photographs of the speeches, before heading back out to capture some shots whilst dodging the showers. The recently fallen rain gave us some beautiful colour from the lush foliage around the barn and we captured a rainbow from the passing rain and late afternoon sunshine.

I set up some off camera flash for the first dance and was really pleased with the results, especially with the great music from the Band, Anthem.
