A summer wedding in blazing sunshine at Firle Place and St Peter’s Church near the South Downs. Claudia & Alex had a blessing ceremony at the church with Reverend Peter Owen Jones and we shot a couple of portraits around the church grounds, particularly focusing on the footpath leading up to the church from the village lane in Firle.
Claudia had booked a white LTI London Taxi Cab to drive them from Lewes to the wedding ceremony, and they took a quick drive around the Firle Estate to the reception behind the main building on the rear lawn.
We took a few photographs in the wildflower walled garden on the estate, this tranquil garden was the perfect romantic little getaway from the wedding party for a few intimate moments together.
Focusing on the main building, Here’s a companion of day and night wedding photography with different lighting techniques. I loved letting in a little lens flare into the image above and a carefully placed symmetrical composition, placing the sun (strategically) just behind one of the chimneys. For the shot below, similar composition, but using a flash behind to illuminate the building to create a silhouette.
I was also surprised by just taking a test shot from a different angle at how well it looked looking towards the twilight sky to the west, and just adding another flash in behind to illuminate the bride and groom for this last shot.
