A few shots from Sam & Laura’s wedding at Chapel Barn in Sussex. The weather was pretty wet, with light drizzle to heavy showers from afternoon to evening. It was hard work, but we got some great shots in spite of the rain, and it was really interesting to work with. This shot uses the classic technique of backlighting to illuminate the rain.
Rain provides a great texture to the images, defining a wonderful ambience of frozen droplets in the air, like a still snowy morning.
Kudos to Laura and Sam for being really keen to get photos and going the extra mile through the rain in wet grass and even a little mud to go down to the lake near the barn. It was really worth it!
For this shot, I set up some backlighting again and sheltered Sam & Laura under an open walled barn. Laura had decorated the barn with hay bales and bunting, which also made a great backdrop to use for our group photos.
Chapel barn is decorated in festoon lighting in the rafters and they’d also put out a lot of fairy lights. Here, I used some fairy lights in the foreground and a wide aperture to blur them to create more lighting and a pattern of light around the couple.
