Amy & Sam’s stunning summer wedding at Grittenham Barn in West Sussex.
In the heart of West Sussex, lies an enchanting venue perfect for celebrating love: the Grittenham Barn. As a West Sussex wedding photographer, I’ve witnessed many love stories unfold, but this particular wedding was nothing short of a fairy tale.
Take a look at the wedding video below, and I’ve included a select set of photographs from the wedding day:
Bridal Prep in Petworth
Our day began in the historic town of Petworth. Every bride dreams of that special moment when her father sees her in her wedding dress for the first time. The emotion-filled ‘bridal reveal’ was a sight to behold – mostly as Dad had a look of brilliant shock as he strode into the garden.
Journey through West Sussex to Grittenham Barn:
The bride’s journey to the ceremony was no less opulent, with a classic Bentley paving her way as a surprise. The timeless elegance of this vehicle under the sun painted a vintage canvas reminiscent of old Hollywood.
The Ceremony:
Grittenham Barn was adorned with twinkling fairy lights, complementing the rustic charm of the barn and its surrounding West Sussex countryside. As the bride and groom exchanged their vows during their civil wedding, the beauty of English wildflowers – in hues of blues, yellows, pinks, and whites – added a burst of colour and texture to the barn’s ambiance. The arrangements in milk churns and the hanging flower ‘bombs’ in both the ceremony and reception rooms were a testament to the couple’s exquisite taste.
Post-Ceremony Magic:
The jubilant mood spilled outside post-ceremony with confetti, more snaps with the Bentley, and, of course, their adorable golden retriever adding a playful touch to the photographs. We wandered around the lake and the expansive grounds of the barn, capturing intimate moments against the backdrop of the mesmerising West Sussex countryside & South Downs National Park.
West Sussex Wedding Reception Delights:
The reception had a jovial atmosphere, with garden games like croquet, Molkky, table tennis, and the unique pig racing game created by the Bride’s father – Hamtown Races! The rustic wooden signage, bunting, fairy lights with photos, and meadowboxes for centre pieces brought out the essence of a countryside celebration. The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the white buttercream three-tiered cake, embellished with gilded berries, edible flowers, and a miniature model of their golden retriever.
As night approached and the couple took to the floor for their first dance, a light drizzle added to the magic. But instead of dampening spirits, we utilised the rain, capturing ethereal moments of the bride and groom under an umbrella, with a dramatic sunset painting the horizon in the opposite direction.
In all, this Grittenham Barn wedding was a testament to love, nature, and the beauty that is West Sussex. For couples seeking the perfect blend of rustic charm and elegance, look no further than the West Sussex countryside. And for those in need of a West Sussex wedding photographer, always remember to capture not just images, but emotions and stories that last a lifetime.
