The photographs in this engagement shoot with Dan & Harriet were taken at Pangbourne College, near Reading in Berkshire. The weather for the past week hadn’t been amazing, but the cloud cover gave us some nice soft light to work with in the surrounding woodland of the college in Berkshire.
I always start engagement shoots with a couple of walking shots as a warm up, and we shot the first photographs along the terrace that overlooks the Berkshire countryside. I used some off camera flash in the image above to balance the exposure inside the archway and the landscape behind, but it was very windy and difficult to work with in these conditions!
We then went for a walk to the cricket ground, where Dan & Harriet will have their wedding later this year, and the fences along the pathway provided a good focal point for the background.
I was concerned that the woodland may just look quite bland with a monotone of brown and grey, but some pockets of woodland were still quite colourful and we even found some snowdrops!
Berkshire Woodland Engagement Shoot
For our final shots, the woodland path leading back up to the college buildings provided an interesting compositional line for these engagement portraits.
We shot one or two photographs by a large wooden door and I particularly liked a small hut that was covered in ivy and derelict by the college entrance.
