An engagement shoot in London on Tuesday with Alex & Jack at Crystal Place Park towards the end of the day, capturing portraits in golden hour light.

We started as I always begin when shooting engagement sessions, with a warm up exercise of walking up and down a little along a pretty area or pathway. After a few times of walking up and down, feeling a little ridiculous, Alex & Jack really started to relax and the shots came quite naturally.

This area had a lot of dandelions growing on the grass, and a low angle, shot along the ground really emphasised their pattern to give this spring/summer engagement photo the extra compositional element.

The sun shone through the clouds, giving us the golden hour light that I was hoping for when we booked this shoot for 7.30pm on a day in late May. The back lighting really highlights the dust speckles floating in the air, further emphasised with a long lens.

We moved further south for the rest of the engagement shoot, shooting some photos in the woodland and focusing on a couple of different poses and using the cow parsley as a background.

Lastly, I wanted to use the colour of the sky as a backdrop for a couple of shots, so we shot one using front lighting and the other to create a silhouette looking back up the hill. You can see the Crystal Palace Athletics Ground floodlights in the final shot!
